Have you ever picked up an item of clothing at a Yard Sale or Thrift Store that started to smell a bit musty once you got it home?
I tried Pine-Sol on an old wool coat that was left for years in a musty crawl space and have used it a few times for thrift store clothing that I just couldn't wash the smell out of any other way.
Steps:
1. Place the clothing items in your washing machine and add about a capful of Pine-Sol along with a bit of detergent.
2. Start the machine and let it run through the whole cycle. (Set it for another rinse with a tiny bit of detergent and then do a another load of laundry to get the excess Pine-Sol smell out of your washing machine.)
3. Take the item out and hang to dry OUTSIDE.
4. Once it is dry, put it back in the machine and wash as you normally would. Do this as many times as necessary to get the Pine-Sol smell out. (Sometimes letting the clothing dry in between washes will help here)
5. If that doesn't work, throw it out.
Warning: this will smell quite strongly so please only try this in a well-ventilated laundry room during the summer.
